About The Stars Group
The Stars Group Inc. (formerly known as Amaya Inc. and Amaya Gaming Group) was a major Canadian gaming and online gambling company headquartered in Toronto, Ontario. Traded on both NASDAQ and the Toronto Stock Exchange (TSX), the company was a global powerhouse in the iGaming sector.
The company owned and operated some of the world's most dominant gaming platforms, including:
- PokerStars (the largest real-money online poker site globally)
- Full Tilt Poker
- Stars Casino
- BetStars
- Fox Bet
It also significantly expanded into sports betting by acquiring Sky Betting & Gaming in 2018.
Originally a B2B software provider called Amaya Gaming, the company achieved astronomical growth in 2014 by executing a $4.9 billion reverse takeover of Rational Group (the parent company of PokerStars). In 2017, to distance itself from past executive controversies and align its identity with its flagship asset, the corporation rebranded as The Stars Group Inc.
In 2019, Flutter Entertainment and The Stars Group Inc publicly announced a definitive agreement to combine their businesses.
